A visitor had already chatted, yet the widget started over with "Hello" every time they moved to another page or refreshed. A greeting goes out once per visit and at most 3 times in 24 hours to the same visitor. When a visitor comes back after 30 minutes or more away, it counts as a new visit, so earlier messages are collapsed and the widget greets again. Other repeats are mostly caused by the browser not remembering the previous visit or the installation code being added twice, and repeated greetings feel intrusive to visitors.
How to fix
- For a widget you installed yourself, check that the installation code appears only once on the page. It is common to add it to both a shared layout and an individual page.
- In the Cafe24 app, check the store dashboard for the "A voidX widget script from another channel is also installed" warning, and if it appears, remove the script you do not use. The Cafe24 app and Shopify app do not repeat the greeting within 30 minutes, even across pages.
- Check that you were not using a private window or a tracking blocker while testing. Settings that clear site data on close or extensions that block storage make every visit look like the first, so check again in a normal window with extensions turned off.
- A greeting after returning more than 30 minutes later is expected behavior. Earlier messages expand again when you click "Show N earlier messages", and all the conditions for greetings are in Proactive greetings.
- If the issue persists, contact us with your site address, the time it happened, your browser, and a screenshot of the repeated greeting.
